If like me, you play Overwatch then you’ll be as excited as I am about the pending full release of the new playable character, Doomfist. Here at Magnum Tattoo Supplies, we are certainly waiting in anticipation, we’ve seen him on the player test realms, heard about his pre-emptive nerfs and now it’s just a waiting game for him to be released in full. Overwatch is such a popular game and it's no wonder, the graphics are colourful and lively and it features characters that just jump out of the screen, we all have a favourite and we all have a character that we groan at when we see them *cough – Mei – cough*. A lot went into the character design in Overwatch, Blizzard employed top voice actors that could speak their character’s native tongue, each character has their own footstep sound, each has their own unique shape so they are easy to distinguish on the battlefield and some of them have pretty awesome ink. That’s what we are interested in at Magnum Tattoo Supplies, so instead of twiddling our thumbs waiting for Doomfist to be fully released, let’s go through five of our favourites!

5. Widowmaker – Black Widow back piece

Widowmaker is a pretty harsh woman with a disturbing back story. She was kidnapped by Talon and brainwashed basically, then deployed as a sleeper agent who was later activated and killed her husband in his sleep. Sad stuff. I was pretty late to the game with Overwatch and Widowmaker was the first character I picked just because I liked the look of her, needless to say, that the people in chat were pretty disgruntled to see a level one pick a sniper class, but I stuck with her and now I can hit at least 5% of my shots. What we really want to talk about is the huge black widow tattoo that covers almost the entirety of her back and comes over her shoulders. The reasoning for it is self-explanatory, the tattoo itself is quite imposing, all black with just the tiny patch of red on the spider’s body stretching the full length of her back. It’s probably one of the most famous tattoos in Overwatch, but I still think there are better ones, don’t feel too bad for Widowmaker though, she comes up again later.

4. Junkrat – Skull tattoo on shoulder

I don’t know what it is about Junkrat but all I have to do is look at him and he makes me laugh. He’s an Australian criminal who has something that people want and that’s all we really know about him at the moment. He’s not part of Overwatch and he isn’t part of Talon, he just makes mischief for the sake of it. I was actually surprised the first time I noticed he has a tattoo, given his lack of limbs, but he actually has a cool little skull on his right shoulder. It’s done in black and grey and I think it deserves a place amongst our favourites because if you look at it in game there is quite a lot of detail in it!

3. Widowmaker - araignée du soir, Cauchemar on forearm

I told you she’d be back! Widowmaker is very French, her real name is Amélie Lecroix and she has a beautiful French accent. It only makes sense that she would get some French text as a tattoo, it roughly translates to “evening spider, Nightmare”, interesting quote. I put this one higher up than her back tattoo, even though her back piece is probably more well known, just because I like the tattoo better, the script is bold and it's surrounded by what looks like cracks, it is just so much more detailed that the spider on her back.

2. Roadhog – Pig with engines on stomach

Roadhog is Junkrat’s bodyguard so he isn’t in Talon or Overwatch either, he just causes chaos for the sake of chaos as he says “no job too big, no score to small”. Let’s talk about his tattoo because it’s pretty magnificent and like Fry says on Futurama ‘Nowadays, people aren’t interested in art that isn’t tattooed on fat guys’. How fortuitous for Roadhog that he had an outie so that he could get a tattoo on his belly that resembles his face! The pig face is a bit silly but the engines, fire and script are what really set it off. Of course, originally he was portrayed with an eagle instead of engines and fire but I really think that the change is more befitting of his character.

1. Hanzo – Spirit Dragon on arm/chest

So, my favourite is definitely handsome Hanzo’s spirit dragon tattoo and that decision was made with absolutely no bias whatsoever. It is undoubtedly the coolest tattoo in the game currently, the detail in it is incredible, it covers his whole arm and spreads over some of his chest and on top of all that it lights up when he does his ultimate, I wish my tattoos did that. Hanzo is one of my favourite characters in Overwatch, I don’t play him much though because I don’t feel I can do him justice. He and his brother Genji have, in my view, one of the most interesting back stories and their cinematic gave me goose bumps. I think I like him because he’s one of the more middle ground characters, he isn’t ultra-good or bad but he does have a complicated past. His tattoo stands out the most in this list to us here at Magnum Tattoo Supplies so he goes at number one.

What do you think? Is there someone else that belonged on this list or did you think that someone else deserved number one?

Love Katy…
