Marketa Vondrousova getting new tattoo after Wimbledon win

RSS

During Saturday's final, we were blessed with an incredible showcase of pure tennis talent on Centre Court at Wimbledon. Of course, only one woman could leave victorious...

Tennis superstar Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic overcame Ons Jabeur in straight sets at The All England Club. Her victory over Jabeur marks her first Grand Slam title at just 24 years of age, but what really got the crowd talking is her impressive collection of tattoos.

Find out more about her body art and her plans for a celebratory new tattoo here in our blog. Remember to also protect your artwork like a true professional with high-quality tattoo aftercare products.

What do Marketa Vondrousova's existing tattoos mean?

Vondrousova, the former junior world number No.1, got her first tattoo for her birthday when she was only 16 years of age. Since then her collection has continued to grow and she now has three or four artists she visits back in the Czech Republic.

Her body art is mainly concentrated on her arms, which includes a mix of stick and poke designs along with those done with tattoo machines. It is unclear exactly how many tattoos she wears on both of her arms. Nonetheless, the simple doodle aesthetic characterising many of her tattoos certainly catches the eye while she's on the court.

She keeps the meaning of most of her tattoo designs out of the public eye. However, one of her most inspirational and admired tattoos sit behind her right elbow. The quote reads "No rain, No flowers" has great personal significance to her as she has faced a number of injury setbacks throughout her career so far. Her most notable being a left wrist injury that had plagued her since her appearance in the 2019 French Open Final (where she was the first teenage major finalist in nearly a decade).

Vondrousova came into the Wimbledon 2023 as an unseeded player, however, she has seemingly proven everyone wrong by walking out as Champion. Her inspirational tattoo functions as a source of motivation, proving that sometimes hard moments are needed for success. Her Wimbledon win has shown just that!

She is also believed to have her lucky number 13 tattooed onto her body as well as the Olympic rings, which she added to her body art collection after winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Vondrousova's tattoo-related bet

Vondrousova revealed in her post-match interview that she had made an agreement with her coach, Jan Mertl, prior to the tournament. The bet was that if she were to win a WTA tour Grand Slam, he would have to get a tattoo.

We'll have to stay tuned to see what design she chooses for him, or whether they'll end up getting matching tattoos. There's no better way to celebrate your first professional title in a Grand Slam in our opinion! Just be sure to protect new artwork with a high-quality tattoo care product like MTS Tattoo Balm.

Will we see more Vondrousova tattoos at The All England Club?

Marketa Vondrousova's tattoo collection is a reflection of her journey, resilience and ambition. It is clear from her performance in this Wimbledon Grand Slam final that she has the skill and perseverance to continue making history, and maybe some of her tattoos will come to reflect her career highlights.

We look forward to seeing how her career statistics grow and what new designs she adds to her body art collection after this incredible win. Congratulations Marketa!
